Meet Sheriff Nate Chaplin
Here at the Sheriff's Office, our numbers were greatly diminished by all the recent changes. The former Sheriff, Chief Deputy and Jail Administrator all moved on to non-law enforcement jobs the day before I took office. Our patrol deputies, our dispatch center, and our correctional unit were critically understaffed. And to add further insult to injury, a lightning strike had disabled our internal computer systems, causing us to log calls and reports by hand.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office needed a rebuild, needed it quickly, and needed it at a time of great uncertainty.
During this time, I often considered this quote by Theodore Roosevelt:
"Nothing in the world is worth having or worth doing unless it means effort, pain, difficulty."
Teddy really hit the nail on the head with this one.
